We'll leave from Malaga and head for Granada. Granada is the former capital of the last Islamic realm in southern Iberia—a kingdom that left its mark on the architectural heritage of the area you will discover today. We will visit the Alhambra, whose translation from Arabic—The Red One—refers to the sun-dried bricks used to build the fortress's outer walls. This true wonder of Moorish art stands as one of the most prestigious testimonies of Muslim presence in Spain. We'll then wander through the gorgeous gardens and courtyards of the Generalife, the former summer palace of the Nasrid rulers.
Enjoy free time after lunch in a local restaurant.

The remains of the monumental complex that includes the Monastery of Sant Pere de Rodes are an excellent example of a medieval settlement. Experts believe the style is uniquely autochthonous.  Different legends recount the origins of the site, but the first traces of a religious point date back to the 9th century. It was the center of the Church’s power in the region from the 11th to 14th century. The monks departed from the monastery in 1798, and the structure fell into ruin. It was declared a historical monument in 1930 and has been meticulously restored in several phases over the past 90 years. We’ll visit the church, monastic cells, dining room, and several annexes within the complex.

Roses has been known throughout the ages for the calm waters in its natural port. The Greek Quarter, Roman town, and 11th-century monastery are all found within the historic citadel walls. Charles V, Holy Roman Emperor and Archduke of Austria, ordered the construction of the fortifications we see now in 1543 to protect it from pirate and French attacks. The monumental, Renaissance-style entryway built at the time is known as the Sea Gate. Following partial demolition of the site, the Spanish government declared it a national monument in 1961. We’ll then head to the Dali Theater-Museum, the world’s largest Surrealist object. Why is it called a theater museum? Because it was built on the ruins of a municipal theater and Salvador Dali designed and decorated it himself. Who else would have the audacity to put giant eggs on the facade? The collections inside include his paintings, drawings, sculptures, engravings, installations, holograms, stereoscopes, and photos. Get a real feel for the man and his unique art during this excursion. You might never look at the world the same again.

Join us for a guided tour of Antoni Gaudi’s magnum opus, La Sagrada Familia. Five generations have watched the cathedral being built, and it is still a work in progress. The work of art contains never-before-seen building and structural systems suffused with symbolism and the utmost care in every detail. We’ll continue our celebration of Gaudi at the Park Güell, perched on the hills of the city. The park is designed to bring the peace and calm expected from nature, contrasted with the fantastically shaped roofs and unusual pinnacles dotting the buildings.

A panoramic elevator will bring you to the fortified Castillo de la Concepción, where you’ll be able to take in the wonderful views before visiting the fort.
